Xbox Games with Gold – October 2015

We’re fully into autumn now (the best season of the year I might add!), and as the nights get longer and the weather gets colder, is there really any better way to spend the evenings than curled up on the sofa with a good game on the Xbox?  October’s Games with Gold are some of the best offerings we’ve had yet, especially if you love story type games like I do.  Keep reading to find out what’s coming up for Xbox Gold gamers in October.

Games with Gold

Xbox One

The Games with Gold October offerings for the Xbox One are Valiant Hearts: The Great War and The Walking Dead Season 1 by Telltale Games.  As a reminder, Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition will be available to download until the 15th October.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is an adventure puzzle game that was inspired by letters the soldiers wrote home during WW1.  Published by Ubisoft, gamers will play as four different characters throughout the game with the aim of helping a German soldier to find his lost love.  A story of friendship, sacrifice and survival, Valiant Hearts has received staggeringly positive reviews since its release.  Winning the Best Animated Video Game in the Annie Awards and the Best Narrative in the Games for Change Awards, this is one of the best Games with Gold we’ve seen this year.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War will be available for the entirety of October.  It has an RRP of £11.99.

Valiant Hearts

The Walking Dead Season 1

The Walking Dead is an episodic story game that was originally released between April and November, 2012.  Playing as Lee, your dropped into a world where the zombie apocalypse is just beginning, and your actions will determine the fates of others in the game.  Looking after a young girl called Clementine who you meet pretty soon after the game begins, it’s not just your life on the line.  Although this is essentially a point and click game, players are given different choices to make, many of which will affect the story as you play.  It will definitely tug on your heartstrings, and many a grown man has cried playing this game.  Telltale’s The Walking Dead is a truly unforgettable experience, and one that I’m looking forward to replaying on the Xbox One.

The Walking Dead will be available from October 16th – November 15th.  It has an RRP of £19.99.  The DLC ‘400 Days’ is also included with Games with Gold.

Xbox 360

Xbox 360 users can look forward to Metal Gear Solid V (a previous free game for the Xbox One) and Telltale’s The Walking Dead with October’s Games with Gold.

Metal Gear Solid V

Metal Gear Solid V was a free game for Xbox One users in August and is now up for grabs for those who have yet to upgrade.  Part of the Metal Gear franchise, it’s an enjoyable game with effective graphics and controls.  Unlike the other games in the franchise, however, Metal Gear Solid has been compared to a demo as it is relatively short to play taking as little as 2 hours to complete.  That said, for achievement hunters it’s pretty good going, and you won’t find many easier games to stack for Gamerscore.

Metal Gear Solid V will be available from the 1st – 15th October on the Xbox 360.  It has an RRP of £19.99.

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead Season 1

Microsoft have been a bit sneaky this month giving away The Walking Dead free on both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360.  That said, it’s not a very long game to play, and for those of you who are interested in stacking the game for achievements, it is worth playing both versions.  You can also alter your player choices on the second play through to see if your decisions would have changed had you played it differently.  Remember, backwards compatibility will also be out soon, so this is likely why Microsoft have chosen October to give away two copies of the same game for different consoles.

The Walking Dead is available from the 16th – 31st October.  It has an RRP of £19.99.  As with the Xbox One edition, The DLC ‘400 Days’ is also included for Gold subscribers.

Have you played any of the above Games with Gold games for October? We’d love to hear what you think of them in the comments.
